Owatrol® Oil
One easy application of Owatrol® Oil Primes, Seals & Bonds Owatrol® Oil is a rust penetrate which stops rust and prevents against the reappearance of corrosion. It protects and isolates deep into the sound metal, expelling air and moisture. It gives the appearance of a varnished surface either to be decorated or prepared for painting.
Used for over 75 years throughout the world, OWATROL OIL has played an important part in maintenance painting for leading industrial and shipping firms, not only as a powerful rust inhibitor and wood preserver but now, more than ever, Owatrol Oil provides many new ways to make a wide variety of tough jobs much easier.
What is it?
Owatrol Oil is a versatile blend of natural oils with a penetration power 3 times more than water and a powerful bonding ability. High in solids, non-toxic when dry, colourless and with low odour it is user friendly.
What does it do?
Owatrol Oil whether used 100% on its own, as a primer or as an additive to turpentine based enamels or polyurethanes, allows you to paint in virtually any weather/temperature conditions no matter how extreme. Owatrol Oil creeps into the most minute crevices and pinholes of any surface where ordinary paint cannot enter. There it dries to a tough, rust inhibiting, anti oxidization and deep penetrating flexible finish, forming a powerful bonding film for the next coat of paint or varnish. Stable and durable, it compensates for the adverse effects that weather and surface conditions have on paint. Used alone as a primer/sealer or added to oil/alkyd based paint, varnishes and stains or metal and wood primers it enhances their inherent qualities and makes them stick to almost any surface, self oiling woods, rusted or galvanized metal, aluminium, fiber glass, plastics – even glass. Brush and lap marks are eliminated giving a highly professional end finish to the job. Eliminates Premature peeling and cracking and chalking are a thing of the past. No more uneven paint film – a major cause of early breakdown of surface coatings. And unlike thinners, Owatrol Oil does not evaporate and actually makes more paint. By ensuring greater coverage from each litre of paint it saves money.
A drop of ordinary paint did not spread far. It sits on the surface and does not penetrate and bond properly. The same paint with 50% Owatrol Oil spread many times further and deeply penetrated the surface displacing all moisture and air.
What it can’t do?
Owatrol Oil cannot be used in 2-part chemical resistant coatings, Acrylic or other water based paint, chlorinated rubber or coal tar coatings. Always mix a small amount first, if not sure, to determine compatibility. On its own Owatrol Oil is not UV Resistant.
Owatrol Oil makes it easy to paint
Stir paint thoroughly and apply. When paint “pulls” or “sets” too fast add Owatrol Oil until the paint spreads smoothly and evenly. If paint is very thick, or in hot weather, 20% to 30% Owatrol Oil may be required. If after a while the paint begins to “pull” add some more Owatrol Oil Let the brush or roller be the guide. For spraying 10-20% Owatrol Oil is usually right.
